Rencontre Africaine Pour la Defense des Droits de l'Homme is a non-governmental organization formed in Dakar in 1990 by a group of African intellectuals. Its goals are to promote, defend and protect human rights in Senegal and in Africa by:
- Monitoring the respect for human life and dignity;
- Promoting the full exercise of citizenship, and notably the effective equality of rights among citizens;
- Contributing to the emergence of the rule of law and democracy in Africa; and
- Contributing to the rapprochement of African peoples, promoting peace, friendship and solidarity amongst them.
