  • A group of armed men freed 90 prisoners in a small town in South Darfur
  • Police source in South Darfur said that the attackers wounded two guards during the operation and fled to an undetermined destination
  • The authorities indicated they were able to capture some of the freed prisoners and were conducting investigations to uncover the identity of the attackers

Headline: Justice and Equality Movement Accused Sudanese Army of Conducting air raids in West Darfur

  • Abdul Aziz Annour, Justice and Equality Movement’s field leader, accused Sudanese military of conducting three days of air raids on two towns near the capital of South Darfur Al Jenaina killing three civilians
  • UN spokesperson in Sudan, Noureddine Al Mazni, confirmed the attacks and warned that “such actions do not affect just the humanitarian activities, but also the deployment of Darfur hybrid force and Darfur peace negotiations”
  • Al Mazni added that the volatile situation in Darfur was the main issue discussed by Rudolph Adada and AU and UN envoys Salim Ahmed Salim and Jan Eliasson in Khartoum
  • Eliasson plans to meet with rebel leaders to urge them to unify their positions and attend the next round of peace talks
  • Most humanitarian activities were curtailed in the region because of increased violence by rebel groups, government forces, and bandits
