BBC: Sudan lobbies against Bashir case. Sudan has started lobbying the UN to block an investigation into alleged war crimes in Darfur by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir. Other African countries are expected to call for the case to be suspended. International Criminal Court chief prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo says that troops under the president's command continue to rape women in Darfur. Opponents of the investigation argue that it is hindering efforts to establish peace in Darfur.

Agence France-Presse: OIC calls for prudence before trying to arrest Beshir. The head of a pan-Islamic organization called Monday for more time for negotiations to resolve the conflict in Darfur conflict before any move to arrest Sudanese President Omar el-Beshir. "I think we have to be a little bit more prudent before we proceed further in this direction," Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, secretary general of the 57-member Organization of the Islamic Conference, told a press conference.

Washington Post: Student Activism Brings Sudan Native to GWU. Makwei Mabioor Deng looked out the shuttle-bus window on his way to class at George Washington University and wondered aloud whether there were crocodiles in the Potomac River. Three weeks earlier, he had never been on a plane, never heard of a microwave oven, never seen a library full of books and computers. Now, having spent 16 years in a refugee camp after his Sudanese village was destroyed, he has fast-forwarded into a new life as a college student in the United States.
