The following TODAY Show clip featuring Darfuri author and genocide survivor Halima Bashir aired today: Darfur Survivor Speaks Out.

Reuters: Sudan flies new jets in show of military muscle. Sudan unveiled on Wednesday new fighter planes and missiles in a parade seen as a show of strength aimed at critics supporting a war crimes case against its president and Darfur rebels threatening more attacks. The Independence Day show, which displayed scores of Sudanese tanks, anti-aircraft guns, armoured personnel carriers and rocket launchers, was the latest in a string of military exercises the army has organised in Sudan this week. Analysts say the exercise was designed to bolster President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, accused by the International Criminal Court of orchestrating genocide in the western region of Darfur.

Reuters: Bush to meet south Sudan president next week. U.S. President George W. Bush is to meet next week with south Sudan's president to discuss his peace pact with the Khartoum government, which the United States accuses of complicity in genocide in Darfur and sponsoring terrorism. The White House said on Wednesday that Bush and Salva Kiir, a former rebel who is now president of the semi-autonomous south Sudan as well as national vice president, will meet at the White House on Monday to discuss the troubled 2005 peace agreement that ended two decades of civil war in Sudan as well as the situation in Darfur.

Washington Times: Darfur accountability sought. Four years ago, Mark Hanis "didn't know if the Janjaweed militia was a person, place or thing." Today, the bearded 26-year-old heads the Genocide Intervention Network (GI-Net), a savvy Washington-based nonprofit dedicated to fighting genocide, particularly in Sudan. During his last semester at Swarthmore in the fall of 2004, Mr. Hanis and a few friends launched the Genocide Intervention Network (GI-Net) to raise money for peacekeepers in Sudan.
