Sudan Tribune: Sudan's peace partners failed to reach agreement over parliamentary seats. The Sudan's partners to the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) have failed to reach an agreement over the controversial results of the 2008 population census. The dominant National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) could not agree to increase the number of parliamentary seats for Southern Sudan in the National Assembly.

Sudan Tribune: Gambari pledges to consolidate peace in Darfur. The New head of Darfur peacekeeping operation pledged to work collectively with Sudanese official to consolidate the peace process in the restive Darfur particularly through recovery and development.

Washington Post: Sudan ex-rebels say to boycott vote in oil state. Sudan's former southern rebels said on Saturday they would boycott elections in a key oil-producing state over concerns about fraud, ratcheting up the pressure less than three months ahead of voting.

Afrique en Ligne: US Under Secretary for Democracy visits East Africa. US Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs Mara Otero, was due in East Africa Tuesday for a week-long tour to address human security issues, according to a statement released by the State Department. Beginning her trip in Kenya from 26-28 January, Otero will engage with governments and civil society on an array of global issues that address human security -- from political and economic security to water, health and environmental security.
